Accountability Report - a Neutrals POV

Accountability Report - a process where data-based measures are used to provide information on institutional performance

Last weekend was a tiring day for those who had poured they're souls and mind to conjure up and present STAN EC's 2011 - 2012 Annual Accountability Report. It was the moment where a whole year of hard work, tears and sweats are being evaluated. The moment to find out whether the organizations had reached another milestone or simply stagnated in the process.

Kampung Main Cipulir was picked as this year venue. A secluded mini theme park located in Cipulir, it was a wonder that the EO were able to come across it. The venue was quite representative, neglecting the fact that about 30 peoples were crammed into a cottage. But overall, with facilities of outbound, swimming pool and attractions it was actually a bargain.

The accountability report was scheduled to begun at 1930 hours and ended by 2230 hours. A supposedly more than sufficient amount of time to present a report. Supposedly, in reality the report ended at 0230 hours, the next day.  One might lay the blame on the method of presentation. Instead of highlighting milestones or critical points taking place in their term, a decision to project the whole accountability reports was taken. Thus  it explains the inability to keep with the schedule.

Taking other factors into considerations, I chose to lay the blame on the seniors. It's true that the event was addressed for evaluation. But evaluation is not simply a matter of criticizing, and placing other peoples judgment into questioning. It is also a matter of providing alternative approach if similar problems might arise in the future, providing credits when it's due, a forum of reflection. In a nutshell, it was supposed to be a learning process for everyone involved.

The moment we put too much focus on criticizing, questioning and blaming people in charge, the more we were lead astray from the purpose of evaluation. Omitting out the negative and carrying forward the positive of the term was the purpose of the accountability report. Yes, they should be held accountable but they're not to be bashed. When a fault was found and acknowledged we should proceed with a solvency or an input on how such conditions were not to be repeated.

The effects of straining too much on the negative issues in accountability report should be avoided. Straining too much on the negative distorts the evaluation. It might lead to defensive stance from subjects in the spotlight. Furthermore caught in the heat of arguments we tend to forget to appreciate the achievements attained. Thus it might lead to a feeling of a lack of appreciation for what they've accomplished for the organization.

Board of Councilor should take note on this. Appreciate the incumbent for what they've accomplished, provides credits when its due. Criticize and question the questionable actions but on the other hand provide solvency for the problems acknowledged. Instead of being a part of the problems, lets be a part of the solutions.

A.N. The article was meant as a critique to all seniors involved, this include the author for the past mishap that's been caused to extreme questioning in previous accountability reports.
